Memorial Day is this weekend and it got me in the mood for an intimate BBQ. I love the big Memorial Day BBQ’s too but I cherish smaller group settings. I get the chance to connect more with each person. An added bonus- it’s not as much prep work! Here is my guide to making the most of your memorial day bbq!
Let’s start with the decor! I didn’t buy any new decor items for this bbq. I think it’s important to pull from what you already have but if you need to go grab something to make your dinner complete, go for it!
We will be sitting outside! It will probably be one of the last weekends I get to enjoy nice outside weather. Phoenix is heading into its hot season 🙁
Most of my decor for this set up is from Target. We recently put in a pool so I stocked up on some plastic outdoor items that are pool safe. They have such great pieces at affordable prices. My white square dish set was $22 for 4 place setting and the table cloth was $14. The corners are weighted which helps keep them from flying up when it’s breezy. I had the napkins and twine from a previous event. Aren’t these wine glasses adorable!!!!! Only $1.49 each!
One of my favorite tricks is using a piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper as the placemat! Easy to clean up and if no one spill on it, it’s easy to reuse. I grabbed a couple candle holders and my flower piece from my living room for the centerpiece. With that, my table is complete!
Let’s move onto the Memorial Day BBQ food!! June will be 4 years since making the paleo switch and I love serving paleo when entertaining.
Paleo Memorial Day BBQ Menu
- Main Dish: Smashed Steak Skewers from Nom Nom Paleo! I’ve been wanting to try these and now I’m going to!
- Side Dish: Grilled Sweet Potatoes! These are a staple in our house but we’ve never grilled them!
- Side Dish: Veggie Skewers! One of our summer favorites!
- Fruit: Blueberries & Strawberries in fun parchment paper cones! These are perfect for the kiddos to hold while they play.
We went to the Peach Festival last weekend and picked fresh peaches!!! So I had to bake a peach pie!!!! It was delicious!
I used a pre-made pie crush from Whole Foods that is gluten & dairy free only because I didn’t have time to make my own crust but when I do make my own crust I use Elana’s Pantry Recipe. One thing I do differently is I bake it in a pie stone from Pampered Chef. It comes out so crisp!
I cut my peaches into slices, fanned them out on the pie crust then drizzled honey all over it. For the topping I used Elana’s Pantry Paleo Peach Crisp topping. It turned out so yummy, we ate it all!
Check out more of my favorite paleo dishes over on Pinterest! I know you’ll find lots of delicious ideas for your Memorial Day BBQ!
Comment and tell me how you’ll be spending your Memorial Day and what you’ll be eating! Remember what this day is for and keep the families of the ones lost in your prayers. We get to enjoy this amazing freedom because they served with their lives!
