When I started my blog last year, I hated my office space. It was so hard to be creative and actually enjoy working. I would work at the kitchen table instead, but that wasn’t very convenient when it came to meal time. I knew I needed a change but didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. So here’s how I did my office make-over for less than $750.
This is how the office looked before….NOT PRETTY! We had a matching bookcase and desk (facing the other desk). The walls were the color the previous owner had chosen and all we did was pick out some office furniture. It worked great when we were both in medical sales but since I changed careers and started my own company it didn’t work anymore.
I set out to redesign our office space. We needed two desks, new paint, and new accessories. The only must have was that it had to reflect me and my style. I didn’t start out with a specific budget in mind other than that I wanted to do it as cheap as I could. I found 2 X Desks from ZGallerie and knew I had to have them. I found them at DownEast Home & Basics for a lot cheaper! I got both desks for less than $550! That is a huge bargain, they retail for $599 each. My husband came up with the idea to do black & white horizontal stripes and I loved the idea.
I wanted a gallery wall, and went to Goodwill to find some really cheap frames. I painted them with pink, black & rustoleum metallic gold spray paint and they turned out just as I wanted. I bought some canvases, acrylic paint, scrapbook paper & went to work making this little collage. TJ Maxx had the perfect pink pillows to match my design ($14 each)! My husband had this futon from his bachelor days and I covered it with a slip cover from Walmart for $19. We need a space for guests to stay so our office doubles as the guest room.
The gold spray paint continued throughout the office. I bought this lamp from goodwill & it was an ugly brown color until I painted. It is GORGEOUS now! The lamp shade came from Target and was only $25. I love sitting at my desk early in the morning or late at night working. To complete my little office space I added a big framed cork board from HomeGoods ($40), painted the existing curtain rods gold, added light blue curtains from IKEA ($50) and TADA!!!! My new office is complete!
